Video: Tom Kilcoyne - Love in the Streets
This is what we're talking about! Quality, pure quality, signed Tom Kilcoyne. This one has been a long time coming and we're super excited to finally release it out in the wild. We could go on and explain all there is about the project, but figured we'd ask the man in charge himself about the ins and outs of his latest video Love in the Streets.
Now, this one has been a long time coming. Love in the Streets is my 8 minute part filmed over the last few years. Working full time, injuries and general life gets in the way as always, but I' m so happy to share this now. Street riding takes you all over, to the most random small towns and estates. Seeing those places you would usually have no reason to visit and the interactions with locals will always be a reason why street riding is the best. Each clip has a tale behind it and it's so good to have that to look back on. This was filmed all over Catalunya and a trip to Cologne. I hope you enjoy. Thanks to everyone who helped out along the way.

Sit back and enjoy 8 minutes of absolutely beautiful Street riding, then head below for an in depth look into the project.

Q: Why make a video part when everyone’s attention span is fried by social media?
A: It’s a good point, but luckily for me and many of us, making a video isn’t just about views. I love having a project to be working on, a reason to push myself creatively and also to explore my surrounding area. Filming a video takes a lot of time and patience, but we had so much fun getting out and about. Having that to look back on is 100 times better than some reel which will be forgotten in a day. Growing up and still to this day I love video parts, you get to see so much more from a rider, their vision and the filmer’s coming together, that’s the stuff that gets you motivated to go out and film! And in the end, those that care, those that matter will watch it.

Q: Story behind the beer clip?
A: Yeah, it’s the perfect example of an interaction you would never have if you’re going about normal day to day life, but street riding provides some interesting situations. So, I’m a good hour and a half into trying that backwards manual drop pedal 270, getting close but not quite clicking how I want. I see a man, striding up towards me, usually this is an indication of a kick out.. But on this occasion, hands me a crisp cold heineken, crack it open, a little sip and thought this would be a bit of luck to get it done and sure enough, it was the one! Rolling away, a little bit of love in the streets and you get your reward. Unbelievably, sharp eyed Walter got the whole thing on video, needless to say it wasn’t the last Heiny that got drunk that night.

Q: Was there anything you set out to achieve with this video?
A: Definitely, going into this I made a bit of a commitment to prioritise any new learns, moves and spots for this video. I wanted to give less to instagram and save unexpected ones for this. Everything ends up on there eventually, better to put time into filming it properly, editing and having a tune on it that is really for the vibe not just for racking up views. I had so many ideas and spot uses I wanted to include in it too. In the end, I didn’t get absolutely everything I wanted, but it’s just motivation to get the next one started.
Q: How’s the spot map looking these days?
A: Pretty damn good I have to say, nearing 600 spots in Catalunya, not including the obvious ones. I love the process, either following a feeling when you’re in a new town or recognising patterns of where to find spots on Google Maps. It’s something that you can get good at and with new spots come new ideas.

Q: Oldest clip?
A: September 2022, time gets away from you with these projects haha. The 3 tap 3 on the red brick spot at 2.30 minutes. Between working full time and a few injuries along the way, it took a lot to get this video finished. I actually had a rough time in July with Appendicitis and some complications during surgery meant a 7 day stint in hospital, I’m recovering still now and finalising the editing for this video kept me occupied.
Q: Most tries for a clip?
A: Hard to put a number on it, but best guess would be the three tap on the bank to long fakie manual and cab into the bank. It took two trips there and probably 150 tries each time, if not more. There’s a small lip at the bottom of the bank which caught my wheel making it harder than it needed to be.

Q: Any shout outs?
Q: Yes, thank you to Walter for all the missions and sticking with me filming the video, as well as everyone else who helped out filming. Niklas for his hospitality in Cologne and everyone at The Rise, as well as the companies who support me and keep me rolling these years: Type Clothing, Pridestreet, Altruiste Bikes, Waller BMX, Shadow Riding Gear and Evoc, I appreciate it so much.
